MISSION
We are a community group working collaboratively to see the realisation of Scottish Mosques as vibrant Islamic Centres that cater to the religious, educational and social needs of women in their communities with excellence.
AIMS
1. Help mosques establish accessible and equitable prayer facilities for women
2. Support mosques to have a welcoming and inclusive attitude to their female service users
3. Encourage mosques to offer a variety of services and activities that are appropriate to the local female community
4. Encourage mosques to provide an imam/qualified female scholar that is accessible to the service users
5. Include women in decision making at an operational and strategic levels

2. Collaborate with mosques to identify solutions to issues of accessibility and equity of prayer facilities for women
3. Encourage and support female involvement with their local mosques through volunteering, membership and leadership roles
4. Encourage all mosques to have a clear and accessible feedback process
VSM consists of a Steering Committee supported by a Working Group.
The Working Group consists of key stake holders, women’s advocacy groups, mosque representatives and committed individuals.
The Steering Committee and the Working Group has a mix of male and female representation.

All members of the steering group act within their own individual capacity and do not represent any organisation they may be affiliated with.

Dr Sahira Dar, Chair
A GP/Holistic Therapist working in Pollokshields, Glasgow. She has been involved in a variety of community initiatives with Islamic organisations in the last decade and continues her Islamic education, having recently completed the iSyllabus Advanced course. Shaykh Hassan Rabbani A Mufti, Imam and Chaplain based in Glasgow. He works for a variety of different organisations and is passionate about Interfaith work. Firsila Shah Background in education and currently works as an examiner. Wants to see the mosque being relevant to her children for their social and spiritual needs. Adeel Ibrahim Health coach and Hijama therapist with experience in community youth work and humanitarian work |
Khadijah Ibrahim, Secretary
Maariya Adam From a background in research and training, she is currently a teacher and board member of the Yusuf Youth Initiative in Dundee. She has a keen interest in community activism. Nasim Azad A Project Worker in Edinburgh with Sacro and Council of British Pakistanis (Scotland). Her work is to engage with local ethnic minority communities and raise awareness of issues such as forced marriages and honour based violence. She is also a committee member at Annandale mosque, Edinburgh. Dr Aman Durrani A Medical doctor with over 25 years experience in community work locally and nationally across the UK. His particular interests are working with young people, university ISOCs and grassroot projects. |

BBC2 Timeline on 13 December 2018 featured Scottish Mosques For All (now known as Vibrant Scottish Mosques) and highlighted why this project is necessary.
They visited one of the many mosques from across Scotland that are actively engaging women and providing facilities. We hope this will encourage all of our Mosques to work with us to identify opportunities for improvement. |
