Welcome!
Welcome to Vibrant Scottish Mosques, a project that was created to highlight the importance of inclusivity of women in our mosque spaces at all levels.
We envisage our mosques to be vibrant Islamic centres that cater to the religious, educational and social needs of their communities with excellence. As part of this vision we believe women should be integral to the inner workings of our mosques to help establish a safe and welcoming environment for women to pray, teach, learn and connect with their communities.
There is a growing need for women to have equitable spaces and voices that not only reflect the ethos of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) mosque during his time but also the changing requirements of our communities.
Whilst many mosques provide a space for women to pray, it is often inaccessible or unwelcoming, so work is needed to be done to ensure mosques engage with women to provide the services and facilities they need to fulfil the needs of their spiritual well-being and allow the mosque to be the heart of their community.
We aim to work with mosques to highlight the facilities they provide for women and to support them with changes required to adapt and develop their mosques to make them vibrant Islamic centres that our communities need.

Vibrant Scottish Mosques was set up to spark change in the way mosques interact with the community, especially the next generation. We believe that whilst mosques have provided a much needed service, changing times and growing communities mean that the way we operate and promote our mosques has to change and develop so that we remain relevant and effective. |
